Jerman/Bruce Endowment Scholarship Surprise 2009-01-28
On Friday, Saturday 23, 2009 my mom, Shirley, and I drove up to UGA to watch the Gymdogs with my close friend Brian Bruce. Many may know him as “Barking Brian” due to the fact that when he watches me play golf he always gives a warm and loud Georgia Bulldog Bark. I always know when he is around or when I make a birdie because the bark can be heard across the course and I love that!

Well, as we arrived at the coliseum, we were surprised by Brian with the amazing event that follows. Brian stated, “Basically, after meeting you, Shirley and the Big DAWG, (Jim, my father) in Columbus, OH at the NCAA championship in 1999, it was the start of what I consider a very special relationship that has given me a lot of great memories and travels ( from my various Open trips, the roll-away bed in your hotel room, to my fun filled caddie experience in Toledo, to the DAWG games, etc. ).  I wanted to do something to celebrate the memory of the Big DAWG as a super proud GOLF DAWG Dad, a big overall DAWG fan and a good friend, to honor all of your great accomplishments on the course and in the classroom as an All American DAWG and to recognize what I hope will be our lifetime friendship, all of which was started as the result of our mutual involvement with GEORGIA WOMEN'S GOLF.  The fact that Kelley was the assistant coach then and the head coach now is icing on the cake.  At any rate, I thought that establishing a women's golf scholarship at UGA in the JERMAN name might do the trick  ..... hence, the JERMAN/Bruce Women's Golf Scholarship.  It has been established, but will not actually be awarded to a DAWG golfer until I get the entire $150,000 in the pot.   Hopefully I can get that done in the next 5-6 years.”

So, basically this friend of mine has not only helped our alma mater, but has done so in honor and memory of my father who bestowed upon me the loyalty and determination that makes me strive to be the best on and off the course. With this in mind, I too will also be working hard to contribute to this amazing fund! I will forever be thankful to Brian for all that he does and for all the support he gives me, regardless of my score, he will always give me an amazing Bark! We are truly touched! Thank you so much from both myself and my mom!!!
