 If
you were able to see my bag this week, you would
have noticed the largeAmerican flag and yellow
ribbon displayed in support of our troops. I grew
up an Army brat as my father was in the U.S. Army
for 20 years. My brother-in-law, Bob, was also
in the U.S. Army and served in Bosnia to help protect
our freedoms. I have grown up with an immense amount
of patriotism and continue to be supportive of
our troops who are protecting us all around the
world. I am reminded that the game I play is just
a game regardless of how good or bad I play. I
am thankful for my freedom in this amazing country.
This
week my golf had many ups and downs. On Thursday
I carded my first eagle of my professional career.
The par 5's were not a strong point this week
but the rescue wood that I hit within two feet
of the pin was a quick way to get back to even
par. It gave me a much needed jolt of confidence
and I was able to have another round under par.
Friday started out quite odd.
I went through my normal warm up routine on hitting,
chipping and putting, but as I was putting I
noticed a little mishap with my shoes. I guess
I wasn't paying attention in the locker room
and put on two different colored shoes. Although
they were both blue, they were definitely different.
Thank goodness I had time to run to the locker
room and make a quick change.
I was also "miked" on Friday, which seemed to
have brought me a little bit of luck. I started out
really hot by making 4 birdies in the first 5 holes.
I then settled in and finished with a solid 69 putting
me towards the top of the leader board for a while. The
microphone was fun and hopefully I will have
another opportunity to wear it.
My round on Saturday was rather
unimpressive, having only one birdie and too
many bogeys. My approach shots were very inconsistent
with hitting only 9 greens and 9 fairways. After
my practice session on the range I felt very
positive heading into the final round.
On Sunday, my swing came back and I felt more comfortable over the ball
than I have been during the last couple of weeks. I hit 17 greens, which
was great considering some of the tough hole locations. Too bad my putting
was less than stellar today, having 38 putts. Three 3-putts are not going
to allow you to move up the leader board very fast out here on tour. These
women came to play; 23 under par is very impressive! Even though I didn't
have the best weekend, I am definitely learning how to cope with a bad
round and build on a good one.
It was great to see that Stacy
P. had a fantastic week while playing on her
sponsor's exemption. I can't wait to have her
out here on a regular basis. I wish her the best
of luck the remainder of the year!
During my second round on the
eighth hole, I pulled my second shot to the left
and it dropped under a tree. As I was approaching
my ball, it was such a nice surprise to look
up and see Bill and Annie Ogg out to cheer me
on. They are the parents of one of my teammates
from UGA and I had not seen them in a couple
of years. Thanks for coming. I am so blessed
to have such a deep support group around the
country. Thanks for all the messages (boards),
emails and calls from everyone, it truly brings
a bright smile to my face.
I now have a week off to work
on my game in preparation for The Office Depot
Championship in Tarzana, California.
