Although
I had the week off during the Nabisco, I still
found myself at the course working hard. I spent
a lot of hours, nine total, working with the LPGA
staff. It is a requirement by the LPGA that all
rookies complete 16 hours working within the tournament
operations. The LPGA wants to give us an up close
look at what it takes to put on a top-notch tournament.
If you were at the tourney you probably saw a lot
of us doing odd jobs for the officials. On Tuesday,
I worked with the queen of LPGA.com (Shirley) and
took notes on how to make a website friendly with
a variety of pictures. It was fun to go around
the course and pick out all of the celebrities
playing with my fellow tour players. As an avid
baseball fan it was quite exciting to meet Hall
of Famer Carlton Fisk. (Who during his career wore
two different colored SOX…Look it up!) It
was an honor to get a picture taken with such an
accomplished and well respected athlete. My day
of work ended with the LPGA media watching Michelle
Wie during her interviews. What an exceptional
week for that young lady. She was very kind and,
wow, she can definitely hit the ball. Watch out
in the years to come.
During the week, I was blessed
to spend time with my friends, Len and Terry
Korn. They live nearby and were able to find
us housing at their friends place. Thanks to
Mr. and Mrs. Bickle for allowing me to use their
extra condo. I felt like I was at home, except
that their home has a pool I frequently used
throughout the week. I also played golf on Len
and Terry's course, Cathedral Canyon. This course
has a great layout and I know that Len and I
enjoyed beating up on the boys. It was fun and
I can't wait to return next year. I also enjoyed
a great dinner at the Beach House with Len and
Terry, and their son Greg.
Friday night was one that was
filled with lots of laughter. My dad and I made
a trip to a nearby casino to see an accomplished
comedian Bobcat Goldthwait. Many of you may remember
him from the Police Academy movies. I have never
laughed so hard. The Blackjack tables were also
good to me.
On Thursday I took a trip to Carlsbad,
CA to visit the TaylorMade-Adidas headquarters
and work on a couple of club adjustments. I was
able to get rid of a huge gap in yardage between
my pitching wedge and nine iron. Now, thanks
to George, I have a consistent distance between
all of my clubs. I also tweaked my TaylorMade
rescue woods to stop a slight left that was occurring
regularly. I have learned that my swing might
not cause a right or left shot, but rather a
club that is not set properly to my unique swing.
On Saturday, I worked another
four hours at the Nabisco riding around with
a rules official and taking notes on how they
regulate slow play. It has been an adjustment
getting used to the fact that I only get 30 seconds
per shot, but I have an extra 25 seconds to add
on for the entire hole before getting penalized.
It seems confusing, but watching Robert O. hard
at work helped me to understand better. Basically,
play ready golf.
Overall, my off week was a great
time to reflect on the aspects in my game that
I needed to focus on, while at the same time
relaxing by the pool with a great book. It's
amazing how much one can accomplish in one day.
However, I am anxious to get to L.A. and get
back into the swing of things! |
