Here we are in Augusta, home of many historic moments
in golf. Once again, it was so nice
to be back close to home and some good old southern
hospitality. The golf course had a beautiful layout
with lots of hills and undulations that we maneuvered
throughout the week. After my first round, my dad
noticed that my swing had gotten quite short, as
if I was hitting half shots. We headed out to the
range and worked on making a full turn. I was able
to be more aggressive and thus my shots throughout
the rest of the week were a lot more accurate.
Oh, how nice it is to be back in the Peach state.
Being near friends and family made my trip to
Augusta much more special. My mom, sister and
husband all piled in with the two girls to once
again bring me a cheering section. LeAnn, my
22 month old niece always made me smile. She
would give me high fives, many good luck kisses,
and is quickly learning when to clap. With the
course being so hilly, my family members were
troopers and I could never thank them enough.
I also had many uncles, aunts and cousins visiting
the golf course, as they live in nearby Aiken,
and Columbia, S.C. We were able to have great
dinners together catching up on ole' times and
those to come. With his wife Susan, the General
Manager of my home club, Mike M., and our Head
Professional, Mike G., all drove from Maple Ridge
Golf Club, Columbus, GA. to watch me play. They
were all unbelievably supportive and made me
feel so comfortable. I was very blessed to have
the biggest Bulldog fan follow me and bark all
the way. Every time I make birdie, Brian B. will
bark to let everyone in the Bulldog nation know.
How proud he makes me feel about being a true
Bulldog, through and through.
One of the funniest moments during the week
was when I went with a close friend to hit some
balls at a local driving range. It was very different
being the spectator, but I had a great time watching
him hit balls at the big bulls-eye in the field.
Being the competitor that I am I couldn't help
but take part in a competition. I took his very
heavy clubs, in my bare feet, without a glove
and took him on; but I think we ran out of balls
before a true winner was determined! It took
me back to my early junior years having little
competitions with the boys; it was so much fun!!
I went with dad while he made a quick stop at
Rogers Barber Shop in Augusta. We went in and
immediately realized that Roger is a huge fan
of sports and he pointed out that Larry Mize,
another Columbus resident, has stopped by during
his many trips to the Masters. It was an honor
to meet such a great sports fan and for giving
dad the perfect trim.
Overall, it was a decent week on the course
made incredibly fun with all of the support from
friends and family. Now it's time for our week
off and I am very excited to get back to my own
bed. The week will give me time to visit Maple
Ridge and have my favorite grilled chicken sandwich.
The best part of the week off will be spending
lots of time with my mom, sister and family.
Being on tour really makes you thankful for all
the time you get to spend with them. The weekend
will bring back lots of good college memories
as I will be throwing my best friend, Wendy,
her bachelorette party and a bridal shower. We
have to do it all early due to the busy schedule.
I'm sure that we will have a lot of fun in Atlanta;
we always seem to. Wendy will be getting married
to Matt in July, during the Sybase, the only
tournament I will be missing thus far. Until
New York, have a great week! |
