My
last week out on the west coast was enjoyable.
I was quite excited to get back to playing golf
and the Las Vegas Country Club was a beautiful
venue. I thought the 9th and 18th holes were great
par 5's that rewarded well hit shots, especially
if hit in two. My practice rounds went rather smoothly
and I started to hit the ball a lot crisper towards
the end of the week. My putting on the other hand
didn't come around as quickly.
Takefuji put together a very well-run
tournament complete with all the crazy folks
from Vegas. At our Black Tie dinner Elvis was
very friendly and helped me get into the groove
of things for the week. It was great to meet
Mr. Hata a well renowned singer from Japan. He
was really sweet when he sang at dinner and privately
at our table for Terry Jo Myers and myself. On
Friday he came out to the tournament and brought
me good luck. He brought his lucky stone and
was gracious enough to let me touch it. Every
time I looked at him he had is back turned because
he was too nervous to watch me. It was incredibly
sweet!
I hit the ball quite well throughout
the week, but unfortunately Thursday I played
out of fear rather than taking one shot at a
time. I realized that I will make mistakes and
that I am not perfect. On Thursday I had one
of my worst mental rounds of my career, but Saturday
I made the goal to be patient and let each shot
be its own shot. Saturday was one of the best
mental days of my career. It's amazing how I
never seem to stop learning out here on tour.
It was such a great day on Saturday,
as one of my friends preceded to win the tournament.
Candie played quite eloquently and with such
an extreme amount of focus that I later learned
that she did not know that she had a three-stroke
lead until she reached the 18th green. To see
her grin from ear to ear just made me that more
excited for her and her wonderful family. It
was wonderful to see such a young talented player
play with such fire against the best in the world.
It gives all of us young players that much more
motivation and confidence.
By late Saturday I was quite ready to get out of
Las Vegas and back to Georgia.
I went to the airport 6 hours before my flight
just to get some time to myself and enjoy a quick
movie on my DVD player. Of course the selected
movie was "Sweet Home Alabama." I can't
wait to get to my sister, mom, Bob, and spend
Easter Sunday with my nieces, LeAnn and Angelina.
