These last two weeks have been quite an adventure. First
off, I am playing catch- up with my diary. This
is a combined two week entry since my original
computer decided to create its last article and
it logged onto the web for the final time. So here
I am typing on my new Compaq which is incredibly
fast. It's amazing how new technology can make
your life easier.
Two weeks ago I made my way to Corning, N.Y. where they were celebrating
their 25th year hosting the LPGA. I had a great time in this small quaint
town, which reminded me of Athens, Georgia. I was blessed to be able to
stay with Melissa V. who made it unbelievably comfortable; just like home.
She lives in a gorgeous ranch home which she has personally remodeled.
A really unique aspect to her home is that she has a full size working
elevator that rises from her basement garage into her kitchen. She was
extremely supportive of me throughout the week. I can't wait to visit with
her again next year.
Corning Country Club was a great little track, tight
fairways, decent greens; it put a premium on
accurate shots and consistent putting. Although
I hit the ball really well, my putting didn't
quite come around well enough to make an impact
on my score.

I
headed to Chicago a couple of days early and
decided to catch a Chicago Cubs game. On Monday,
my dad and I took the train into Chicago and
hopped on the red line to Wrigley field. Once
we got to the stadium dad went and purchased
tickets and we lucked into some great seats directly
behind home plate in the 8th row. I sat right
next to "Mrs. Cub" whose husband has
taken care of the umpires throughout the game
for the last 20 plus years. She was very gracious;
even going to the dugout during the 3rd inning
and retrieving two baseballs from batting practice
and the game for my dad and me.
We then noticed that "Ryno," i.e. Ryne Sandberg,
was sitting a couple of rows back. Apparently Ryno
is a close friend of "Mrs. Cub," and he
was kind enough to autograph my ball. Although the
Cubs struggled and did not get the win, my dad and
I had one of the best days thus far out here on tour.
It's great to see different parts of the country
and experience all of the local flavors. Speaking
of that, there are great restaurants in the Naperville
area. I went to a great Cuban restaurant on Wednesday
night, the Samba Room, with the quite funny and famous
Taylor-Made Brian. The local band added some welcomed
energy.
I also went to a fabulous Italian
place, Luigi's House, with my new identical twin
buddies Alan and Jeff. I met these local guys during
my practice round and found some followers for
the rest of the week. They were very loyal fans,
even following me through the tornado struck, rain
filled pro-am. They helped by driving the carts
for my pro-am partners and helped me carry my umbrella.
It was great to have their support during the entire
week. Thanks guys!
I played better in Chicago, with the exception of
a couple of mental errors coming down the stretch
a couple of days. Overall, I feel confident in
my game and I look forward to making my way to
Delaware for my first major as a Pro. |
